West Ranga Lodge
West Rangá is considered one of the most successful rivers for Atlantic salmon fishing in Iceland.
On average, around 5,000 salmon are caught in the river each season, with a record 2008 haul of 14,315, making it one of the most productive salmon rivers in the country.
The river's unique feature is its extremely stable flow. Even during heavy rainfall, the water rarely becomes rocky, making fishing conditions very reliable throughout the season. This makes Ytri Rangá one of the safest choices for anglers who want to spend as much time on the water as possible.
Although the river was not historically a natural salmon river and was once known primarily for its excellent sea trout fishing, a successful Smelt stocking program has made it one of the five most successful Icelandic rivers in terms of Atlantic salmon catches.
Until September 7, fly fishing is only permitted, and after that date, worms are also permitted. The river can accommodate 12 to 16 anglers at a time, making it a great choice for both larger groups and smaller groups. The river is divided into four sections with four rods each, providing enough space and peace for quality fishing.
Fishing is led by experienced local guides in a ratio of two anglers to one guide, and rod sharing is also possible. Each fishing day is divided into two six-hour shifts, during which guests have time to rest and enjoy top-quality meals in the lodge overlooking the famous local pool.
Salmon catches of 9 kg are common, and the river is suitable for both single-handed and double-handed fly fishing, so it excites both experienced anglers and anglers who are fishing for Atlantic salmon for the first time.
Strict rules apply to maintaining a healthy population: all female Atlantic salmon longer than 70 cm must be placed in a holding tank for further breeding, while all trout must be returned to the river unharmed.

West Rangá Lodge is a modern, high-standard fishing lodge designed to provide a comfortable stay for anglers fishing on one of Iceland's most famous salmon rivers. Its exceptional location offers beautiful views of the river, waterfalls and the famous home pool.
The lodge has 22 rooms, 18 of which are doubles, all with private bathrooms with showers. A spacious dining room, a pleasant lounge for socializing and a fully equipped kitchen create a pleasant atmosphere after a day on the water.
Guests enjoy a rich buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, prepared by experienced chefs, and friendly staff ensure pleasant service. The bar, with a selected selection of draft beers and spirits, is a great place to relax and socialize after a successful day of fishing.
A changing room and a drying room for boots and equipment are also available for anglers, and after a hard day on the river, they can relax in the outdoor massage pool.
The lodge also has a small fishing shop where you can buy or replenish equipment and tackle for fishing on Icelandic rivers.
